Anthony DiGiovanni was admitted to Sharps Community Home in Ponchatoula, LA, in 2019 when he was 18 years old. Anthony felt he did not fit in the community home for the first few months, as he was homesick. Eventually, his mood lightened up as he started to adjust to his new home environment.
During this initial stay with ResCare, Anthony obtained his state ID and was hired at the local Rouses Market in 2021. Anthony was making money, but like any other 22 year old, he decided he was ready for the real world and checked himself out of ResCare in March 2023. He was still working at the Rouses Market; however, he was being overcharged for rent. Anthony stated, “I found out the hard way that I can’t handle the real world by myself.â€
Anthony contacted his Program Manager at ResCare and said he decided to return to Sharps Community Home where he knew ResCare was his family and everyone had his best interests in mind. He returned to ResCare on October 10, 2023.
Anthony has accomplished many things since returning to ResCare. He still works at the local Rouses Market and has many responsibilities. Anthony ensures customers have baskets and a pleasant atmosphere while shopping. Anthony grills, and can be seen in the photo grilling a rack of ribs. He also broils crawfish and crabs during seafood season. On July 24, 2024, Anthony turned his state ID into a driver’s license. Now, Anthony is saving for a car and working on his apartment to transition to Waiver with ResCare as his provider.
Anthony turned 23 on June 19, 2024. He is thriving in his environment, is active in his community, and recently went on a men’s retreat with his church. Anthony says, “I am very thankful for ResCare.â€
